Dear Concerned citizen,
As you know education is a gateway towards development for individuals and society as a whole. However, education has to be given in an appropriate environment in order to achieve its goal. In the oldest city in Ethiopia, there exists an old school which produced above 200 thousand students. This school, called Fasiledes, is in a state of disruption beyond repair. Because some rooms are not in use any more, 105 and above students are forced to attend classes crowded in a room. The rooms which are being used presently have cracked walls and leaking roofs. This in turn has created alarming situation towards the safety of the students and the staff.
The option left is to expand the school through rebuilding a new school. This task, unfortunately is left to the people of the City of Gondar. Hence concerned individuals and representatives of various civic associations got together formed an organizing group aiming to assist the people of the city. The organizing group had started a fundraising campaign through GoFundMe and various ways. The fund is collected through a registered non-profit organization called Fasiledes Meredaja Mahber with a tax ID 83-0990782.
A strong committee with the several stake holders in Gondar is responsible for the project. So far, with the final plan for the new school, the ground breaking has been completed in the month of January 2020. And construction is underway. One of the compounds has been condemned and therefor is out of use. This has created urgency in completing the school building which is under process. However, it is apparent that the project still needs more money to reach its objective.
